Dameron Hospital | Health Outlook | Spring 2019

Dear friends and community members, Welcome to the Spring 2019 issue of Health Outlook. It’s hard to believe we already find ourselves well into 2019. All of the advances in science and technology now available to us just seem to accelerate the speed of life. As busy as you probably are right now, we hope that you’ll take a few moments to enjoy this issue, which contains information about the many services and opportunities we offer to help you make the most of your life through good health. Here for you, 24 hours a day The renovation of the Dameron Emergency Department (ED), including the expanded Emergency Fast Track area, is complete. The new Fast Track allows our core ED staff to focus on patients with severe, life-threatening conditions and shortens the wait times for everyone. This convenient care option not only saves time but helps ensure that patients get the right care at the right time in the right place. A new life and a new you for the summer With the warmer months approaching, we look forward to spending more time outdoors. Some people strive to achieve their “summer body” with the goal of wearing a new bathing suit or light clothing; others just want to be in good condition to enjoy outdoor activities. If you find yourself struggling with weight and health-related issues, we can help. The Dameron Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery Program provides several options for people who need help managing their weight, especially when it compromises their health. Our program uses a team approach to help manage patients’ weight long term, and in more serious cases, may include bariatric surgery to achieve your target weight. Along with coaching and support to establish permanent dietary and lifestyle changes, our program can help you stay “summer ready” all year long! Some of the results have been remarkable. See one of our patient stories in this issue! Recognized for delivering excellence One of the benefits of providing excellent care—in addition to the thanks we receive from our patients—is an acknowledgment from other organizations that evaluate the level of care available in the community. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recently notified us that we had earned its Get With The Guidelines Silver Plus Award for our stroke care program. The award was achieved by meeting or exceeding a set of established criteria—part of the latest medical best practices in the effective treatment for stroke, including timely diagnosis and treatment to yield the best outcomes. One thing that makes our program unique is our partnership with Stanford University Medical Center in quickly diagnosing and treating stroke patients. Through this partnership, we have local support and the option to transfer complicated cases directly to Stanford, if necessary. This kind of local access to university-level medicine is good for our patients and the community. Great food and room service too! It’s clear to us that being in a positive state of mind accelerates the healing process, and a delicious meal can boost your mood. We have worked on revamping our food offerings and service for our patients and guests. Not only have we improved the quality of our food, which is prepared fresh on-site, we now give patients the option to customize their meals from an extensive menu selection and have it served to them room-service style at any time during Nutrition Services’ hours of operation. Café 525’s food has been a big hit, and it’s becoming known as the best place to eat in the area. Our food service program is one way that we’re trying to raise the standard of health care in the community by enhancing the healing environment in every way possible! In closing, we hope that you enjoy the changing of the seasons and will take advantage of the many recreational activities in our community. We’ll keep working hard on other ways to support your ability to enjoy the lifestyle you desire—and, like the weather, we’re just getting warmed up! Yours in health, Lorraine P.
